Status: A fairly common summer resident in Utah being more common in migration and sparse in winter. Like the Sharp-shinned Hawk, Cooper's Hawk tends to prefer wooded areas as a habitat.

Records: This species was first noted in Utah by Ridgway, who regarded it as an uncommon breeding species in 1869. Henshaw indicated that it was not common but generally distributed and a resident in the state. Many specimens are in the collections of the various institutions of the state and elsewhere. There are numerous accounts of nesting, mostly for late May and June.
